While only lasting two minutes, As Sholfield, the brash  young Life insurance salesman , Cagney made a memorable impression, and held his own with the great actor of the day George Arliss. Cagney remembered that Arliss was very encouraging to the young  actor, taking his advice about adjusting  Arliss's shawl during their scene
" Mr. Arliss .... is an artist who is an actor,an actor who is an artist.  Thanks to the  artistry of the erstwhile Disraeli, it
( The Millionaire) assumes an importance it does not, at the bottom merit.... And that's why you sit back and enjoy the fundamentally foolish yarn ! "
